RC Cars (Introduction)

RC Cars (Radio-Controlled Cars) are smaller model cars (also can be vans, buses, lorries, buggies and trucks) that are controlled from a distance by using a remote. Further, some people say "Remote-Controlled Cars" for RC Cars and that is also correct. In the past, remote-controlled cars had a physical wire connection. But now, most of the RC Cars are controlled by radio waves and that is the reason for calling them as radio-controlled cars.

There are two main categories in RC cars. They are,

01. Toy-Grade RC Cars.

02. Hobby-Grade RC Cars.

01. Toy-Grade RC Cars -

Toy-Grade RC Car

Toy-Grade RC Cars are made using cheaper components. These cars have basic motors and single electronic circuit boards. Most of them are battery-powered. Toy-Grade RC Car manufacturers mainly focus on the design since their production is directly targeting children. Finding spare parts for these types of cars is a bit difficult task. In addition to that, the performance of Toy-Grade RC Cars is lower than Hobby-Grade RC Cars. However, the initial cost and the maintenance cost of these models are much lower than Hobby-Grade RC Cars.

02. Hobby-Grade RC Cars -

Hobby-Grade RC Car

Hobby-Grade RC Cars are built using high-quality materials and advanced technologies. Hence, these types of RC cars are more reliable and durable than Toy-Grade RC Cars. Spare parts for Hobby-Grade RC Cars are readily available. Further, modifications can be done easily. RTR (Ready to Run) models are pre-assembled and ready for quick use. Kit models come with individual parts and should be assembled prior to use. Accordingly, Hobby-Grade RC Car users must have some level of skill, knowledge and experience to use these models. Also, the initial cost and the maintenance cost of these models are higher than Toy-Grade RC Cars. There are three main categories in Hobby-Grade RC Cars. They are,

I)   Electrically powered models -

Electrically powered RC Cars are powered by electric motors (Brushed motors and brushless motors). Brushless motors generate more power and these motors are easier to maintain than brushed motors.

II)  Nitro-powered models -

Nitro-powered RC Cars consist of engines powered by methanol-based fuel that contains nitromethane.

III) Gasoline-powered models -

Gasoline-powered RC Cars consist of engines powered by gasoline and oil. This RC Car model is more expensive than Electric RC cars and Nitro RC Cars.
